Gideon Bibles
Did you ever wonder why there are Bibles in almost all of the hotel rooms where you have ever stayed? Are hotel people holier than us? Did some theologians determine that religious inspiration most likely occurs in a hotel room or do they teach maids in maid school that the presence of a Bible will keep the partying down so the rooms don't get torn up?
The practice was established by two traveling salesmen, who, while staying at the Hotel Central in Wisconsin, found that they had a mutual respect for the Bible. They formed the Gideon Association, whose purpose is to provide access to the Bible in places where it is not readily obtainable.
The Gideon Association has distributed millions of copies to hotels free of charge and has also supplied millions of copies to servicemen throughout the world. The Gideon Association consists of thousands of businessmen and traveling salesmen who receive donations to fund their mission.
The next time you are in a hotel, after jumping in the bed, pull out the Bible and read a passage or two -- I assure you it won't hurt.
