Today we mourn the passing of a beloved old friend, Common Sense.
Mr. Sense was with us for many years, but no one knows exactly how old he was because his birth records were lost in bureaucratic red tape.
He will be remembered for having taught us important lessons, such as knowing when to come in out of the rain, why the early bird gets the worm and that life isn't always fair.
Common Sense always lived by simple, sound financial policies, "Don't spend more than you earn," and reliable parenting strategies, "Parents are in charge, not the children."
Mr. Sense endured a long illness that included periods when parental consent was required for a teacher to administer an aspirin to a sick student but school officials were prohibited from advising parents that their child was pregnant or wanted an abortion. His illness worsened when the Ten Commandments could not be displayed in a public building and churches became businesses and political advocates.
Mr. Sense took his last breath shortly after prayer was removed from our schools.
Mr. Sense was preceded by his parents, Truth and Honesty, and by his brother, Responsibility, and sister, Reason. He is survived by his stepbrothers, Ima Whiner and Do Nothing.
Sadly this community leader's funeral was poorly attended because few realized he was gone.
